Allen Iverson Wants to Return to the NBA
Posted by Mark Travis in News on July 5, 2010
After retiring from basketball last season due to personal issues, Allen Iverson wants to return to the NBA. Iverson, or Iverson’s publicist, said the following on twitter earlier today:
I want to return to the NBA this season, and help any team that wants me, in any capacity that they feel that I can help. I’m disappointed, and I owe my fans more than what they have seen of me the last couple seasons. However, now that my family is healthy and rock solid, I can concentrate fully on doing what I do best! At the camp, I will help teach kids some of what it takes to be successful in life. On and off the basketball court.
Iverson was not to fond of a back-up role in Memphis last season but it seems like he would be willing to come off the bench this season when he says “I want to … help any team that wants me, in any capacity that they feel that I can help.”
NBA News and Rumors does not have knowledge of any suitors for Iverson at the moment.
Personally, last season I advocated Iverson to the Lakers as long as he accepted Derek Fisher and Kobe were the leaders and starting guards on the team. Now that he seems more willing to come off the bench, why not finish his career with that ever elusive first title? If Laker fans are willing to take on Tracy McGrady, Allen Iverson deserves a shot too, right?
The Knicks May Opt For Iverson Over Sessions
Posted by Mark Travis in Rumors on August 1, 2009
Although the buzz around the NBA is that the New York Knicks are after restricted free agent point guard Ramon Sessions, the New York Daily News suggests that the Knicks may be going after free agent guard Allen Iverson.
Mike D’Antoni is said to favor Sessions, a restricted free agent who enjoyed a breakout season for Milwaukee last year. However, Iverson could be a cheaper alternative because the perennial All-Star is willing to accept a one-year contract that would cost the Knicks their $5.85 million mid-level exception. Sessions, 23, is hoping to receive a multi-year contract starting with the mid-level exception. The Bucks would have seven days to match the offer.
Adding Iverson would be the logical solution for the Knicks because his one year deal would expire, giving them more money to spend on a second max free agent in the 2010 off-season. Signing Sessions would be the opposite, as it would commit $20 million for three or more years. If the Knicks were to get Sessions to sign an offer sheet, the Milwaukee Bucks would have seven days to match the offer.
Iverson has received interest from the Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, and Miami Heat so far this off-season, but he has said he would prefer a team that he would start for.
